Stephanie Presents at the 2015 Disabilities Training Conference
On May 22, 2015, Stephanie Langer spoke at The Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program’s Annual Disabilities Training Conference: Imagining the Future at the JW Marriott, Grande Lakes Orlando. This year the GAL Program celebrated 35 years of advocacy on behalf of Florida’s dependent children. The conference brought together attorneys ad litem, attorneys and non-attorneys from government agencies, and judges as well as private attorneys who work with dependent children with disabilities.
Stephanie’s presentation, titled What You Need To Know About The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (Idea) discussed the different laws that govern special education and ow they interact with each other, and provided practical advise on how to prepare for any meeting with the school system, what documents can and should be requested before any meeting, tips on how to respond to the mistruths most often put forth by school districts, and what options are available to advocates if further action is required to obtain the necessary programs and services for the student.
